Switching Gears on Renovation Priorities

August 15, 2019

This isn’t a fun update. The house still looks like this.

We were originally going to do our master bathroom renovation (addition) first so as not to disrupt our roomie (his room will become part of the kitchen). But, we’ve decided to move forward on the kitchen renovation anyway, for several reasons:

  1. After living here for almost two months, we’ve decided we can live with our tiny master bath longer than the kitchen that just doesn’t work for us.
  2. I have no idea what I want to do with the master bath, but we’re pretty set on our kitchen plans (mood board coming!).
  3. I thought living with random, patchy subfloors would be fine but it’s not. It’s awful and stresses me out every day. We can’t run new hardwoods until all the walls are moved, so if we waited on the kitchen it means waiting on the floors too.
  4. We’ve completely changed our floorplan again (I know! more later) so it makes sense to do the kitchen first.

I’m getting ahead of myself. We’re not destroying any more of our house until the sunroom is done. We were very excited, like three weeks ago?, because we finally found a contractor. Well, we had one small issue with his quote (he quoted beadboard on the ceiling, but we want planking/shiplap). Just getting the quote took almost three weeks and now it’s been another week and a half with no response about the change so we’re probably giving up. Thus, still looking for contractors. Do you know someone to recommend? Anyone? Bueller?

Well that’s all I have for today!
