One Room Challenge Week 6: The Reveal of a Sunnier Sunroom

November 7, 2019

It’s reveal week! Be sure to check out the incredible spaces of the One Room Challenge featured participants and all the guests. I can’t wait to check them all out! As for my space, it’s pretty close to done (minus a few things that didn’t arrive on time and a few more last-minute changes I want to make).

Without further ado, here’s our new sunnier sunroom!

We wanted a space for entertaining. For game nights, cocktail making and long evenings spent chatting away with friends. We wanted it to be welcoming and casual and bright. The design took a turn from the plan (ha! understatement) but in the end it worked out great.

Catch up on the befores and plangutting the room and finding termiteshanging drywallpainting and installing trim.

Another goal was to keep the project under $4,000. If you’re just joining us, we gutted the entire room to the studs, removed the drop ceiling, added skylights and created the built-ins entirely, so that budget didn’t get to go to anything fun like furniture or decor. I’ll do a full budget breakdown later this week, but we went a bit over. Roughly $4,800. BUT! We reused and repurposed furniture and decor we already had. The only pieces I bought new for this room are the two trays, black basket, faux sheepskin and a couple of plants. We still need a new coffee table (and now we need a new couch since we stole the one from our living room!) but we’re happy with where it is now for under $100 in styling.

Let’s look at a couple before and afters before I bombard you with more photos. And thanks to Tanner Johnson Photography for the professional photos!

Before: moldy carpet, dingy wallpaper, heavy curtains, drop ceiling and (not pictured) termites!
After: light, bright, comfortable and a built-in bar
Can you spot the one piece that stayed in the room?

Okay, now for a bunch more photos!

built-in bar with Hygge & West’s Piedmont Indigo wallpaper (still missing the can light cover!)
We have a tradition of taking an Instax photo every time we have friends over (and remember)

I really enjoy this space! I see many fun evenings just chilling in this space. The wall unit area is a winning look . i love how mid-century it looks. Great job with creating such a fresh new look.
