Oh hi!

May 19, 2020

Okay readers moms. I know. It’s been almost six months since we last posted. I can give you the same “I travel so much for work” excuse but obviously there’s been no travel for months now. So mostly it’s just that I’ve been feeling down about making so little progress on our house. We don’t want to put time and money into phase one projects because we *think* phase two is so close. But, there are a lot of factors to that too, not the least of which is the lack of stability right now.

But! I have used this down time to get a really solid plan for our kitchen/pantry/master suite renovation. And there have been some significant changes. We realized re-opening the “door to nowhere” wasn’t in our best interest. It really threw off the flow of the room, cut our cabinet space significantly, limited our flexibility (and ability to buy cabinets before actually knocking down walls) and just generally felt unnecessary to plan for maybe adding a deck that’s not in our plans or budget and has limitations in and of itself (see: the big tree that I love and refuse to cut down that would limit deck size to like 7′ deep).

Second, my number-one-not-changing element has changed. We were so psyched about the brick wall backsplash. 100% yes. Until I mocked it up and realized it’d have to carry all the way into the living room and it’d be way too much (looks- and money-wise). Kind of a duh moment I realize now. But, I’ve been super inspired by English design for this house, so we’re leaning into that harder with a minimal (if any) backsplash instead. And I’m even more excited about it.

I’ve got so much content ready to be written – from projects I’ve done during quarantine, to renting Beatrice House and then listing her for sale (*crying emoji*), to all the specifics about the new kitchen/pantry, to our overall renovation plans, to our next project (which was not even on the radar before). But today I’ll leave you with a sneak peek at our kitchen and pantry plans in the form of fun cabinet color gifs!
